My Thoughts:
The Last Thing She Said is so full of mystery after mystery that I am not sure where to even begin. First off, we meet a 7 year old Chris Matheson and his mom at a book signing convention of not one but two famous authors. Mercedes Livingston and Robin Spencer. Yes THE Robin Spencer of the Faraday fame. I think that was my favorite part of this book: the crossover with Chris Matheson and the Faraday's, Mac and Archie.
Since Chris is retired and he only deals with cold cases and he obviously needs help, in steps the Geezer squad and all their nefarious ways of gaining information. Like I have said before, I have always enjoyed author Carr's family dynamics but in this series not only is it family but friends are also extremely important. And these friends have each other's backs and go that extra mile for each other. And this one really affects them as they find out some startling secrets about a dear friend who has passed away.
I love the puzzle this story was framed in. There was more than one mystery that needed solved and I knew that by the end all of them would tie together to make a very clear picture. The prologue was the border, the rest of the story had the reader and the gang filling in and fitting the rest of the puzzle pieces together.
If you haven't read an author Carr mystery before, she does a very good job of bringing all readers up to date on what has been going on and who all the players are. I highly recommend her mysteries as pretty clean escapes.
