My Thoughts on When the Silence Breaks by Elizabeth Goddard

About:

A deathbed confession. A decades-old secret. A mountain that holds the answers--and danger closing in.

When intelligence analyst Sarah Ellison learns of her grandfather's deathbed confession connected to her brother's murder, she's determined to protect her remaining family. After further investigation, she discovers the disclosed information points to a decades-old government secret buried deep in the Cascade Mountains. With this knowledge, she looks for a guide who knows the terrain like the back of their hand.

After his father's death in a tragic mountain accident, former Navy SEAL Ryder Goodwin no longer guides for the family business. At first, Ryder refuses to help Sarah, but he sees the trouble chasing her and can't stand by while someone brings danger to his small-town mountain community.

Ryder and Sarah gear up to climb the mountain in a race against time and a looming storm. When the danger escalates, their search for answers shifts to a survival mission. Their only chance to make it through involves trusting each other and confronting the truth no one wants them to find.

My Thoughts:

Deep seated family secrets and very evil men who either want those secrets to stay hidden or keep them for themselves help to fuel this high adrenaline adventure. Sarah needs answers as to why her brother was murdered and what her late grandfather had kept hidden for all of these years. She wants to protect the remaining family she has left. She is doing this for them, and she has her own skills to pull this off.

Ryder, who is a former Navy SEAL, is just the man who can help her and guide her on this what seems like an ill-fated journey through the wilderness and up a mountain fighting all along the way with nature and man. And he is a most determined man to keep Sarah safe and to run away from his own demons.

This story is brimming with twists and turns and fraught with danger. The first few chapters' kind of throw you into the thick of it. There were some truths I did not see coming. All in all, this is a great start to a new series by author Goddard.

I was provided a copy of this novel by the publisher. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.

My Thouhgts:

This was a second chance novel as well as a family drama. A story of coming back home again and finding home. Asher, who believed his late father had completely disowned him and finding out that is not the case, has come back home to deal with his family's legacy. When Asher's family racing stables are put under suspicion of drugging their racing horses, they could lose everything their family has ever worked for.

Kelley, who had grown up with Asher, has also come back home after her marriage ended in heartbreak. She has her sisters and she is looking for opportunities to stick around as a chef. When Asher offers her to be the stables caterer, she accepts and they begin to reconnect again. Can they work together and not develop feelings so that Asher can go back to New York and pick up his life there?

This is the beginning of a new series and though the Blackwell family has had its share of heartbreak, Asher is just the first one to be brought back home. I look forward to reading the other brothers' stories and their journey back to where the heart is.

About the Book

The Light of Stars

Title: The Light of Stars
Author: Jenelle Hovde
Publisher: Tyndale House Publishers
Release Date: July 14, 2026
Genre: Historical Romance

An arranged marriage. A powerful company tainted with corruption. Two souls caught between obligation and a longing to find their true calling in this Regency romance set in glittering London ballrooms and Calcutta street markets.

When Kitty Grenville’s grandfather announces her engagement to Sebastian Sinclair, she’s appalled. She barely remembers the boy she met once as a child—and now he’s a man tied to the East India Company, the very organization that tore Kitty and her brother from their mother and home in Hyderabad years ago. Unwilling to relinquish her dream of a love match or her passion for astronomy, Kitty is determined to refuse the marriage and find freedom in her own way.

Sebastian Sinclair carries the weight of duty and regret. To atone for past sins, he complies with his grandfather’s orders to return to England, fulfill a long-standing betrothal, and defend the maligned East India Company before Parliament. Though Kitty makes her disinterest clear, Sebastian is drawn to her intellect and spirit.

As Kitty navigates her first London season, her opinion of Sebastian begins to shift, especially when he shields her from scandal. When he’s abruptly called back to India, Kitty stuns everyone by marrying him and going with him, hoping to escape her grandfather’s control—and to find her mother.

But the challenges that await in India are greater than imagined. Together, Kitty and Sebastian must confront the legacy of family and empire—and discover if a marriage born of obligation can grow into a love strong enough to endure.

My Thoughts:

What you should know is that I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. If you are looking for an arranged marriage between strangers, mystery, family secrets, and the atmospheric England and India during the early 1800's, then you will enjoy this story too.

There is just something about British India that has always captivated me. It might just be the two very different cultures meshing the best they could, or the fact that I would enjoy sightseeing both countries and having a look at their architecture. This story was also fun as it brought in the questionable aspects of the East India Company, that powerful company that almost rivaled the British empire. I also liked seeing two real historical men who helped change history for the world, William Wilberforce and William Carey.

Then we have our couple. Kitty half British and Indian, trapped by her grandfather and kept from the information she wants most. That of her beloved mother. Her soon to be husband, Sebastion all British, but grew up in the Company in India, also trapped by his family. I was on pins and needles till these two got together. In my mind I was like you two can really make a real team, just get together already. And when they did, they did not disappoint. I am looking forward to the next in this series.

My Thoughts and More on Mail-Order Viscountess by Misty M. Beller

About the Book

Book: Mail-Order Viscountess

Author: Misty M. Beller

Genre: Christian historical romance

Release Date: June 9, 2026

Five sons of an English duke, all raised in the Rocky Mountains…

When a Montana blizzard strands two strangers in a cave, honor demands a vow neither of them want.

Nobody knows the truth about newly knighted Lord Thomas Balfour. He doesn’t deserve the being honor showered on him, so after this last trip with his brother and sister-in-law to Butte for supplies, he’ll leave this territory behind completely. But once he reaches town, he’s blindsided to discover his brothers have ordered him a bride by post. A woman complicates everything. And even worse—the bride has brought her sister.

Kate McKinney masterminded this journey west to rescue her younger sister from their controlling mother’s plans. Yet one look at the intended groom’s scowl, and Kate’s doubts bloom. Maybe this mail-order marriage scheme will be far worse for her beloved sister than the wealthy brute their ambitious mother arranged.

Thomas has no choice but to help escort the sisters back to the Balfour ranch. On the trail, a blizzard changes everything, tearing Thomas and Kate away from the others—straight into danger…

From a USA Today bestselling author comes a royal family saga featuring a mail-order bride, snowed-in peril, and an aristocratic marriage of convenience…all set in the rugged Montana Territory.

My Thoughts:

Thomas Balfour's brothers believe it is now time for him to get a wife. So even with his sisters-in-law's backing, they send for one. Unfortunately, they never let Thomas know till the day of the arrival. As you can expect, Thomas is less than thrilled since he wants to break away from his older brothers' shadows and the one that still follows them from England. Thomas has plans to branch out to California and build his own ranch. He plans on stopping his wedding from ever happening. That is until he meets his bride Clara and her older sister Kate.

Kate is very protective of her younger sister. They agreed to this arranged marriage to escape their evil stepmother and her plans for both. However, when Kate finds out Thomas has no such plans and just found out about this arrangement, she is left to come up with something else for her and her sister. That is until a whirlwind of events takes place and she finds herself the bride of Thomas instead.

This was a great continuation, and I highly enjoyed watching very stubborn Thomas fall in love with an equally stubborn Kate. With all kinds of danger from nature, sickness, and from across the sea, the Balfour family continues to stand strong and united. Looking forward to Clara and Robert's story next.

I was provided a copy of this novel from the publisher. I was not required to post a positive review, and all views and opinions are my own.

His Brothers Did What?!  Meet the Hero of Mail-Order Viscountess

Every family has that one person who needs a little…nudging in the right direction.

For the Balfour brothers, that person is Thomas.

Lord Thomas Balfour is many things—newly knighted, fiercely capable, and absolutely convinced he doesn’t deserve any of it. He carries a secret that weighs on him heavier than the Montana snow, and he’s made up his mind: after one last supply run to Butte with his brother and sister-in-law, he’s leaving the territory for good. No fuss, no goodbyes. Just gone.

His brothers, of course, had other plans.

Because while Thomas was busy planning his quiet disappearance, his brothers were busy placing an ad—for a mail-order bride. For him. Without telling him a single word about it.

So imagine Thomas’s face when he arrives in Butte and discovers a woman waiting there to become his wife.

Actually, not one woman. Two.

Because the bride—Kate McKinney—has brought her sister along.

To say Thomas is less than thrilled would be an understatement. The scowl he greets them with says everything. A woman complicates his carefully laid plans. Two women? That’s a catastrophe.

But here’s what Thomas doesn’t know yet: Kate didn’t come west to trap a reluctant lord into marriage. She came to rescue her sister. And one look at Thomas’s stormy expression has her wondering if she’s made a terrible mistake—whether the Balfour brothers’ well-meaning scheme has landed her beloved sister somewhere far worse than the life they left behind.

Two people who don’t want to be there. One scheme cooked up by meddling brothers who love Thomas too much to let him walk away. And a Montana blizzard that’s about to strand them all together with no way out.

I pray you love Mail-Order Viscountess! J

Blessings!

Misty

My Thoughts and More on Anchoring You by Robin Patchen

About the Book

Book: Anchoring You

Author: Robin Patchen

Genre: Christian romantic suspense

Release Date: May 12, 2026

On the glittering waters of the Caribbean, a yacht captain’s fight for survival forces her to rely on a man she swore she’d never trust.

A fiercely independent yacht captain, Kenzie Wright has spent her life disregarding her family’s expectations. She thrives on freedom, charting her own course, and never staying in one place—or with one person—for long. But when a routine voyage thrusts her into the crosshairs of a deadly drug cartel, her carefully crafted agenda is blown apart. Her last hope to save herself and her crew is the partying playboy, Jaz.

DEA informant Jasper Aylett has spent years hunting the cartel leader known only as “the Phantom.” The mission has cost him everything—his family, his reputation, and his chance at redemption. When a beautiful yacht captain gets caught in the Phantom’s web, Jaz risks his life to rescue her. It’s his last chance to secure the information he needs to take his enemy down—and get his life back.

Kenzie is forced into hiding with Jaz, and now two cartels want her dead. With their lives on the line, Kenzie and Jaz must work together to unravel the Phantom’s network before it’s too late. But the closer they get to the truth—and to each other—the more their past wounds and buried fears threaten to tear them apart, leaving them vulnerable to an enemy who won’t stop until they’re both destroyed.

From a USA Today bestselling author… Don’t miss this heart-pounding suspense and swoon-worthy romance as Kenzie and Jasper discover their fight for survival—and for love—can only be won together.

Click here to get your copy!

My Thoughts:

I have really been looking forward to Kenzie Wright's story as she tries to break away some from her family and experience life on her own. Except life is not like that, and even though she has found a job she absolutely enjoys, she still needs help. From her family and from a man she really distrusts.

I found Kenzie's job fascinating. I am always up for a high sea adventure and this one taking place in modern times and the dangers of pirates/drug cartels. The modern times can sometimes get help quicker, but the seas are the same as times before.

Our hero, Jasper Aylett, or Jaz, has quite a bit of past baggage himself. He has hurt a lot of people and made some erroneous decisions that now sees him as a DEA informant. He just wants forgiveness and he is not sure he deserves it.

So, Jaz and Kenzie have some life-threatening adventures to get through all the while learning that their faith will grow stronger and they are loved fiercely.

I was provided a copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to post a positive review, and all views and opinions are my own.

About the Author

Robin Patchen is a USA Today bestselling and award-winning author of Christian romantic suspense. She grew up in a small town in New Hampshire, the setting of her Coventry Saga books, and then headed to Boston to earn a journalism degree. Working in marketing, she discovered how much she loathed the nine-to-five ball and chain. After relocating to the Southwest, she started writing her first novel while homeschooling her three children. The novel was dreadful, but her passion for storytelling didn’t wane. Thankfully, as her children grew, so did her writing ability. Now that her kids are adults, she has more time to play with the lives of fictional heroes and heroines, wreaking havoc and working magic to give her characters happy endings. When she’s not writing, she’s editing or reading, proving that most of her life revolves around the twenty-six letters of the alphabet.

More from Robin

Too Far Gone? Writing a Prodigal Hero

When I started writing Anchoring You, I knew the hero was going to be a challenge.

On the surface, Jaz is everything my heroine Kenzie despises: a charming playboy who flits around the Caribbean with a different woman on his arm every week and a drink perpetually in his hand. When he tries to get to know her, she wants nothing to do with him. She’s heard the rumors. She knows exactly what kind of man he is.

Except she doesn’t know the real Jaz. Nobody does.

Underneath the polished persona, Jaz is drowning. A gambling addiction led to crushing debt, which led to a desperate deal with a dangerous man, which led to five years of living undercover as a DEA informant. He’s lost everything that matters—his money, his reputation, his relationship with his brother, Noah, and most painfully, his daughter Charlotte, whom he left with Noah to keep her safe from the criminals who control his life.

Somewhere in the midst of all that, Jaz also lost his faith.

The Prodigal Who Doesn’t Come Home

We all know the parable of the prodigal son. He squanders his inheritance, hits rock bottom, and returns to his father’s open arms.

But what happens when the prodigal believes he’s wandered too far, done too much, burned too many bridges to ever find his way back?

That’s Jaz’s life when we first meet him. He tells Kenzie at one point, “I’m not sure if I left Him or if He left me, but God and I haven’t had a relationship since I was a teenager.”

Jaz isn’t angry at God. He’s not wrestling with doubt. He’s just disconnected. Numb. He made choices that spiraled out of control. People got hurt, and somewhere along the way, he decided that men like him shouldn’t expect grace.

I think a lot of people can identify with Jaz, even if their circumstances aren’t as dramatic as his. It’s not always a crisis of faith that pulls us away from God. Sometimes it’s shame, the quiet belief that we’ve disqualified ourselves. We believe grace is real, just not for us.

A Faith That Doesn’t Preach

Kenzie could have lectured him or quoted Scripture at him. But Kenzie, a strong believer, doesn’t preach. Instead, she lives her faith, acting on what she believes. In one quiet conversation, when Jaz confesses how far he’s fallen, she offers him truth without judgment:

”There’s no such thing as too far, Jasper. Not with God.”

Kenzie’s relationship with God is evident in how she treats people, how she handles fear, how she extends grace to a man the world has written off. Kenzie’s witness begins to crack Jaz’s defenses.

Writing Broken Heroes

I’m drawn to characters who carry weight—who’ve made real mistakes with real consequences, not just minor flaws designed to make them “relatable.” Jaz gambled away half his family’s estate. He slept around. He abandoned his daughter—even if it was to protect her. He spent five years lying to everyone he met.

These aren’t small things. I didn’t want to minimize them or sweep them under the rug in the rush to make him likable.

I believe in redemption. I believe people can change—not by willpower but by the power of God.

Jaz doesn’t have a dramatic conversion moment in the middle of the action. His journey back to faith starts with prayer, the gentle testing of God in moments of crisis.

And God answered, protecting and guiding him through the most difficult time of his life. When it was over, Jaz realized God had been there all along.

That’s the heart of the prodigal story, isn’t it? The father doesn’t chase the son down the road. He doesn’t force him to come home. But when the son finally turns around, the father is already running to meet him.

Jaz spent years believing he’d gone too far. Kenzie helped him see that there is no “too far” for God.

Because if grace only works for people who haven’t messed up too badly, it’s not really grace at all.

My Thoughts:

Have the tissues ready for this novel. This is a story that is really bittersweet, heart wrenching, and faith filled all at the same time. It is a look at mistakes that define us, and not just us but those around us, and how do we move on afterwards.

This story is told in four women's point of views, and the author masterfully had me feeling for each one, for different reasons. All of their pain and worries were palatable. This is a story of a young girl who gets pregnant, her mother who is confronted with her own past, the mother of the father and all of her shortcomings, and another woman who is carrying around a deep hurt.

All of these women were relatable. This was a highly emotional driven novel that does deal with real world consequences and some sad endings, but hope filled beginnings. Read it with tissues.

My Thoughts:

This is a story about two people trying to find their place in this world. A world that seems to not want them and can be especially cruel. Sasha is given the worst surprise of her life when she turns eighteen and her actress mother abandons her. She always wanted to be loved and accepted by her mother, but Sasha was always hidden the shadows. However, upon her leaving, Sasha's mother does give her the gift of finally letting her know her other family. Here Sasha finds out that she has an uncle and that she is part Cree.

As Sasha makes her way to her uncle's home, she meets Jim Conners whom he is working for. Jim is also coming to grips with his heritage and the nightmare of the Spanish American War. Together these two not only find acceptance, but they also find a singular goal to fight for.

I really enjoyed this story of two people finding out about their rich heritage and coming together to fight and work for a new beginning in both of their lives. A new beginning of love and purpose.

I was provided a copy of this novel from the publisher. I was not required to post a positive review, and all views and opinions are my own.

Shipwrecked Faith JustRead Takeover + Review Blitz

Welcome to the Takeover + Review Blitz for Shipwrecked Faith by Danielle Grandinetti, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

About the Book

Shipwrecked Faith

Title: Shipwrecked Faith
Series: Dawning Sisters #1
Author: Danielle Grandinetti
Publisher: Ashberry Lane
Release Date: May 15, 2026
Genre: Historical Romance

Chicago, October 1929—Kellan O’Roark is running on borrowed time. After handing over his cousin’s incriminating bootlegging ledger to the police, he intends to vanish before the mobster exacts revenge. His destination: the SS Wisconsin, a steamer headed for Milwaukee, upon which he’s secured work despite his fear of the water.

But despite his pressing need for escape, Kellan faces obstacles while leaving Chicago—including one who may break open his heart. Sadie Dawning, desperate to return to her family’s Wisconsin farm and ailing father, escapes a kidnapping attempt at Chicago Union Station when Kellan steps in and offers to smuggle her aboard the Wisconsin. His decision turns nearly fatal when an autumn storm capsizes the ship.

Washed ashore, the pair arrive at Sadie’s family farm to find new storms brewing on land. While Kellan hides his past to continue evading his cousin, Sadie fights for her place among her sisters while the farm battles the beginnings of the Great Depression. Caught between duty, a dangerous past, and a budding love, Kellan and Sadie must rely on their newfound faith in each other and renewed faith in God to weather the growing storm.

My Thoughts:

This was a great beginning to a new series that takes place in the late 1920's. Sadie has moved to Chicago to help make money and send back to her family's farm. However, she has also left home for another reason. One she is keeping close to her chest. Her sister sends her an urgent plea to come back home as their father is very ill. So, Sadie decided to return only to run into more trouble with men, who happen to also be mobsters.

Kellan is not happy living with a criminal cousin. Ignoring the fact that his ruthless cousin is family, he has decided to turn him into the only honest police officer he could find. Then running away, he sees a woman that needs his help. Sadie and Kellan then begin an ill-fated voyage that will send them on a much different course of their lives.

I have enjoyed this story that took place in 1929, right before the stock market crash, with mobsters, and shipwrecks, everything that could definitely stretch these two characters' faith. Not to mention unscrupulous men and a family that is trying so hard to stay together under great financial and medical strain. It was pretty much nonstop from the beginning. I look forward to the sisters' stories next.

I was provided a copy of this novel from the publisher. I was not required to post a positive review, and all views and opinions are my own.

My Thoughts and More on Chase the Light by Suzanne Woods Fisher

About the Book

Book: Chase the Light (National Parks Summers Book 2. It can be read as a stand alone.)

Author: Suzanne Woods Fisher

Genre: Contemporary

Release Date: May 5, 2026

When Acadia National Park ranger Scout Johnson discovers a weathered note near a remote lighthouse, she never imagines it will expose a century-old mystery. The cryptic message points to a forgotten shipwreck, a vanished treasure, and a lighthouse keeper’s suspicious death. Seeking answers, Scout enlists Naki Dana, a thoughtful man whose Penobscot heritage provides crucial insights. As they venture deeper into Acadia’s rugged wilderness, their unlikely partnership begins stirring feelings Scout didn’t expect to find. But they aren’t the only ones searching.

Chase Fletcher, a charming local journalist, sees this treasure hunt as his last opportunity to save his failing paper–and finds himself increasingly drawn to the ranger leading the search. With pressure mounting and loyalties tested, Scout must navigate a winding path between history and justice, truth and betrayal . . . and determine who–and what–deserves her trust.

My Thoughts:

This was a fun visit to the Acadia National Park in Maine. Neither have I ever
been too. Here we have a bit of a treasure hunt, a bit of a love triangle, and a
family drama that has been in the making for years. As for the love triangle, I
know who I wanted Scout to end up with. I was sure the author was going
a certain way, but by the end I was pleasantly surprised.

This was a great introduction to the Acadia Park, which I am now very interested
in going too. I will be putting that on my bucket list. The treasure hunting was fun,
I enjoyed uncovering the clues with the characters and their interactions as well.
Especially when I was trying to find out which one would end up with Scout. Then
there was the relationship with her mom and dad. That was somewhat sad but
eye-opening for her as well.

I was provided a copy of this novel from the publisher. I was not required to post a
positive review, and all views and opinions are my own.

More from Suzanne

If a trip to Acadia National Park isn’t already on your bucket list, it should be—and when you go, don’t miss warm popovers on the lawn at the iconic Jordan Pond House.

The Unofficial-but-Close-Enough Jordan Pond Popover Recipe*

Back in 1895, Nellie and Thomas McIntire bought a Maine farmhouse overlooking the clear waters of Jordan Pond. On their wide green lawn, they served tea and towering popovers to well-to-do summer travelers. In 1928, J. D. Rockefeller purchased the land and later donated it to Acadia National Park. The lawn remains. The view remains. And the popovers? Still iconic.

While the original recipe is famously guarded, this version comes deliciously close.

Makes 6–8 large popovers.

What You’ll Need

  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • Pinch of baking soda
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

Let’s Make Them

  1. Start with a hot oven (and a hot pan).
Preheat your oven to 425°–450°F. Place your popover pan (or a muffin tin) in the oven while it heats.
  2. Whisk the batter.
Beat the eggs for about 2–3 minutes until slightly frothy. Slowly pour in the milk, then add the flour, salt, and baking soda. Mix just until combined. The batter should be smooth but not overworked.
  3. Fill the cups.
Carefully remove the hot pan from the oven and grease it generously with butter or spray. Pour the batter into each cup, filling them about halfway to three-quarters full.
  4. Bake.
Bake at 425°–450°F for 15 minutes. Then, without opening the oven door, reduce the temperature to 350°F and bake another 15–20 minutes. The high heat creates the lift; the lower heat helps them set inside.
  5. Resist the urge to peek.
Do not open the oven door while they bake. The steam inside is what makes them puff and keeps them tall.

Serve immediately with plenty of butter and strawberry jam.

A Few Tips for Sky-High Popovers

  • Room temperature matters. Cold eggs or milk will slow the rise. Let them sit out a bit before mixing.
  • Heat is your friend. A properly preheated pan jump-starts the puff.
  • No peeking. Steam is everything here. Let the oven do its work.

My Thoughts:

Ok, this story had me questioning so many things. First off, please be aware this is the 16th, yes, the 16th in a series of what seems to be a most gripping futuristic crime series. How did I not know that this existed? Now you do dear reader, so don't be like me, start from the beginning. And if you have been following this series all along, wow.

I won't get too much into this story as there are probably many spoilers. I was very intrigued by this crime solving family who seem to have had to deal with so much over the years. From secret cult like organizations, trying to preserve the truth of the past, to some people wanting to do away with technology, this story packed quite a punch. There was a lot happening in this story, from a serial killer case in Alaska to a missing person's case and murder in Chicago. And Eliana's family is somehow involved in everything.

Now I have a mission, read the series starting with the first one. Because if the rest of the series is anything like this last book, I am hooked.

I was provided a copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to post a positive review, and all views and opinions are my own.
