About the Book

Loyally Luke Title: Loyally, Luke

Author: Pepper Basham
Publisher: Thomas Nelson
Release Date: May 14, 2024
Genre: Contemporary Christian Romance

Sometimes love means embracing the good, the bad. . . and even the impossible.

Dear Reader -- My name is Luke Edgewood, and there are few things in life that I require. Mainly black coffee. And flannel. And lots of solitude. And my dogs, Chewy and Indie. What I don't need is romance, so I have no plans to change my thirty-year-old bachelor status anytime soon.

But my youngest sister thinks that by accepting a short-term construction job in the small European country of Skymar, that I'm going to follow along in her footsteps and discover my own romantic adventure. Nope. Bah humbug. The End. This time, her rom-com-movie senses are totally wrong.

Or maybe not. Because I've met a Grace Kelly lookalike who is annoying. . . until she isn't. But she is impossible. As in, nothing can happen between us because she is a literal princess. Even though that's easy to forget when we're working together to restore a castle-like orphanage in a secluded mountain town and "forced proximity" includes a small closet, a secret one-hundred-year-old journal, and the tactile memory of an off-limits royal in my arms.

Basically, the whole situation has turned into an ooey gooey magical snow globe of romantic tropes complete with cute kids and an actual ball. Now, even my sentences are starting to sound like mush. Ugh. Send high levels of testosterone my way--I'm going to need it.

My Thoughts:

Luke is a dependable, honorable, flannel wearing, bearded man who tries to just to be a normal guy. However, that can be very difficult with his family, mainly due to his sisters trying to write his romance out for him. For the most part, Luke is a very good-natured kind of guy and keeps his secrets close to his chest. Unfortunately, he gets tied up in a situation that has him scratching his head, and he becomes unwillingly a topic for the tabloids

Wanting to get experience and to do a good deed, Luke decides to work on an orphanage in the European town of Skymar. He is quite the charmer and I liked how he made the little girls smile and the boys he taught skills that would be beneficial to them. He had a big heart. However, since the beginning and after he had his meet cute with a woman, whom he calls a Grace Kelly look alike, things get interesting. Ends up, she is much more than he could imagine.

Ellie is a princess that is working hard on getting her good reputation back. It is an uphill climb, but what she finds in Luke is that she can be just an ordinary person with him. She feels safe and happy. Pretty soon they become friends and then maybe more.

Be prepared for the swoon as Luke is a type of guy, that when he makes up his mind, he is all in. And their kisses, well they are like magnets. Their lips are anyway. This was a fun and at times funny look at an ordinary Luke falling for a Princess that wants to be seen for herself. Throw in some nosy sisters and you have a wonderful breezy read that will keep you smiling. I especially enjoyed the references to the movies and some of their cheesy tropes.

I was provided a copy of this novel from the publisher. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.
