Weekend Briefing by Jes Drew

Weekend Briefing

Welcome back, agents! Today we have with us Agent Delane to discuss fairytale retellings in honor of the upcoming Rooglewood Press reveal for their http://www.rooglewoodpress.com/writing-contest.

Me: Welcome, Agent Delane. I’m so glad you could come.

Agent Delane (staring straight ahead before remembering her manners and giving me a pleasant smile): My pleasure. And please, call me Jane.

Me: Actually, let’s just go by your official title for now.

Agent Delane (blushing): Applesauce. Sorry- I’m rather unfamiliar with all this agent stuff. I only know homeschooling and being hunted by-

Me (clearing my throat): Actually, that’s classified information. Why don’t we skip the pleasantries and get on to why we came: the Rooglewood contest, whose winners are to be announced in one short week?

Agent Delane: Or long, depending on who you are. I know Rose and Blanca are quite nervous.

Me: Yes, Agents Red. They are why you’re here- to discuss their special mission in the Rooglewood contest.

Agent Delane (nodding): Right. Discuss their personal lives, not mine. This should be easy, since my father studies fairytales. Though, he never really focused on the ‘Snow White’ tale.

Me (gesturing that she should back away from her personal life again): Yes, well, this wasn’t merely a Snow White tale, now was it?

Agent Delane (blushing again): Oh, no. It also has elements of the fairytale ‘Snow White and Rose Red.’ Like the more well-known ‘Snow White,’ there is a young girl named Snow White and a dwarf, but the stories are otherwise quite different- except the marrying of a prince at the end of both.

Me: How are they different and how does that incorporate into the Agents Red’s story?

Agent Delane: The primary difference is that in ‘Snow White and Rose Red,’ Snow White has a sister… named Rose Red. That is the special twist incorporated in the Agents Red’s story- it is a tale of two heroines; sisters, in fact.

Me: I see. And what else can you tell us about the story?

Agent Delane: Well, there is the unique setting. The story takes place in a western, steam-punk-like world- that is the term you use for strange, alternate history worlds, right?

Me: Yes, though it focuses more on the British empire, so your story would not really count.

Agent Delane: Wait, what?

Me: Back away from yourself again.

Agent Delane (blushing): Sorry. I don’t mean to be so self-centered. Anyway, Mission Head has plans on releasing a duology in this same world that has to do with other retellings, but that won’t be for a couple of years, most likely.

Me: Very good. Well, I think that’s all we can reveal before March 31.

Agent Delane (shutting her mouth as if to keep any secrets from escaping and nodding).

Me (shaking my head): We should definitely get you to more field training…

Thank you, Agent Delane, for taking time away from your own story-

Wolf Claw

Jane Delane has always lived an unusual life, having survived a freak wolf accident and then growing up in the woods  completely sequestered form 1920s society. But as her seventeenth birthday draws near, her life becomes even more unusual when her father falls ill and her brother goes missing. When she decides to go looking for her absentee sibling, she joins leagues with a werewolf hunter named Amos Hood. Together they plunge into a world completely new to her-and all the while she begins to learn about a darker one that has haunted her since her childhood. And as she continues to hunt for her brother, it soon becomes apparent that something is hunting her.

And let’s not forget the upcoming release-

Fugitives

Emily Rogers hoped her most dangerous days were behind her when she escaped from the Island. But soon she realizes that trying to figure out her relationship with Christopher Williams and dodging nosy reporters are the least of her worries. The evil they encountered on the Island is hunting them down.

Once again torn away from her parents and normal life, Emily and her cousins, along with Christopher and Oto and a handful of allies must flee through Europe. To be caught would mean certain death, but how long can one keep ahead of the powers that be?

Coming April 16 to all major online booksellers

Join us next week, agents, for an important briefing on upcoming Mission Head events, as well as a top-secret cover reveal no one is going to see coming… Until then, try not to do anything that would get you brain-wiped. Ciao!
