Review, Guest Post, and Giveaway: Texas Timbers by Caryl McAdoo

About the Book

Book: Texas Timbers

Author: Caryl McAdoo

Genre: Historical Christian Romance

Release date: September 3, 2021

He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains the Lord’s favor  . . . is the reverse true?

Can a romance born of prophesy thrive? Autumn Hope knows for a fact that the man she’s to marry cuts timber in the Sulphur River bottoms. She’s seen him in her dreams—exactly where he’s working and goes so far as to buy that block. Of course, she convinces her father she must travel the hundred and fifty miles to meet the man of her dreams. If he isn’t to be her husband, why would she kiss him in her night vision?

The lady’s sudden appearance baffles Sean. Craziness needs a keeper, but how did she ever find him or know his crosscut saw would break? Wounded by a lost love, he cannot believe the tall tale the pretty lady is spinning. It has to be a scam, right? God doesn’t work that way. Or Does He?

My Thoughts:

This was an intriguing story about a young woman who has had dreams of the man she is going to marry many times in her life. Now at the age of twenty-eight, Autumn Hope knows exactly where to find him. Her family knows of her gift and though not wanting her to travel alone, finally relent and let her go on her way.

Now the man she is destined to marry is Sean O'Farrell who is working alone chopping trees. Now imagine his surprise when this woman comes looking for him, doesn't know his name, but seems to know him anyway. He doesn't know what to think of this odd but beautiful woman and he's not sure he should be interested or not.

This was their story with twist and turns and Autumn's dreams and visions are definitely of the supernatural. Autumn's and Sean's meeting and followed courtship bring many changes and growth to their lives and to their family. Even another romance.

Author McAdoo's characters are always a bit out of the box but I enjoy that and in her writing she brings joy and honor to God within her stories.

I received a copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to give a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.

Award-winning author Caryl McAdoo prays her story brings God glory, and her best-selling stories—over sixty published—delight Christian readers around the world. The prolific writer also enjoys singing the new songs the Lord gives her; you may listen at YouTube. Sharing four children and nineteen grandsugars (three greats), Caryl and Ron, her high-school-sweetheart-husband of fifty-three years, live in the woods south of Clarksville, seat of Red River County in far Northeast Texas. The McAdoos wait expectantly for God to open the next door.

More from Caryl

In 1870, my TEXAS TIMBERS heroine Autumn Hope found herself practically an old maid. She’d spent those years when most would be courting taking care of her mother, who was ill and dying. It hadn’t been long since Liberty’s death when the story opens, but Autumn had one of her prophetic dreams—God had shown her a man and assured her He would answer her prayers for a husband.

Readers first met Autumn at her birth in book two, TEXAS MY TEXAS. She had her first prophetic dream in book four, LEAVING TEXAS, at the age of nine. Distraught over her older sister Charity leaving to live in California, the Lord gave her reassurance that her sister would be back to live in Texas, and that she and her new husband would build a hotel in Dallas!

All my readers love Morgan and Charity Lowell and all the adventures they have at the Lowell House Hotel! This is the first time though that God has given her a dream about herself. She knows what the man looks like and exactly where he’s working, but not his name. Still, she is determined to go and find him!

Can you imagine this man . . . a lady hunting him down in the woods while he’s working then telling him he’s going to be her husband? That she’s going to be his wife? Because God said so!

Poor Sean O’Farrell! He was so perplexed by the crazy lady! Oh, his mother prayed plenty and spouted God’s Word at him all the time, but he and the Big Guy . . . they hadn’t been tight in years.

TEXAS TIMBERS is a fun story and not like any I’ve written before! Readers will enjoy reuniting with Morgan and Charity, Henry and May Buckmeyer (from my first family saga), Corbin—Autumn’s father, and so many more of these great characters who so easily worm their way right into your heart . . . at least they did mine! I hope you’ll enjoy it! As always, I pray my story gives God glory!

Review: Tacos for Two by Betsy St. Amant

About:

Two unlikely chefs. One life-changing contest. There can only be one winner . . . right?

Food truck owner Rory Perez may not be able to cook, but she's determined to keep the family business out of the red. An upcoming contest during a food truck festival seems like the best way to do it. The prize money could finally give her solid financial footing, freeing up her time to meet the man she's been talking to via an anonymous online dating site.

Jude Strong is tired of being a puppet at his manipulative father's law firm, and the food truck festival seems like the perfect opportunity to dive into his passion for cooking and finally call his life his own. If he loses the contest, he'll be back at the law firm for good, so failure is not an option.

But things are about to get . . . complicated. Rory's chef gets mono, forcing her to cook after all. And Jude discovers that his stiffest competition is the same woman he's been falling for online. Will they sacrifice the futures they've envisioned for the sake of love? Or will there only ever be tacos for one?

My Thoughts:

What a cute romance about a couple who is competing to win a contest in a food truck contest. But there is much more to this story than either character can imagine.

Rory Perez has inherited her late aunt's food truck and she is responsible for her cousin as well. The only thing, and it is a big one, is she can't cook and she has tried to learn, but it is just not her thing.

Jude Strong works with his dad and brother in a very prestigious law firm. He has no interest in law and enjoys cooking and is toying with the idea of opening a food truck. Jude also cannot stand the constant high handedness from his family and would like to just break free and do what he loves.

This story of Jude and Rory, who are enemies to lovers, are quite a fun couple to watch. Both are stubborn and have much to lose if they do not win the contest. There is another glitch that is going on as well in the story, and the scene in the restaurant when Rory finds out was a wowzer. This was a fun one.

I received a copy of this novel from the publisher I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.

My Thoughts:

Cute, cute, and more cute is what comes to mind at first with this story about twin sisters written by twin sisters. It is a story about twins and how much alike they are, but also shows in a great many ways how different they are. From the clothes they wear, the toys they play with, food they eat, to even the shows on TV they watch, they are completely different. They are their own individuals who just happen to be a twin.

This would make a fun book for any child, with nice bright drawings and just a happy look and feel to it. Even though this is about twins and their special uniqueness, it can also be used for a child with brothers and sisters. That just because they are in the same family they all will have different likes and dislikes and that is normal.

I received a copy of this novel from the authors. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.

Heirs of Falcon Point
By Traci Hunter Abramson, Sian Ann Bessey,
Paige Edwards, A.L. Sowards
Historical Fiction, Contemporary Fiction, Suspense, Mystery, Romance
Paperback & ebook, 408 Pages
October 11, 2021 by Covenant Communications

In the early days of World War II, the Lang family lost everything. Eighty years later, it’s time to take it back.

The Nazis have taken control of Austria, and wealthy widower Leopold Lang faces a difficult decision: join the ranks of the foreign power that has taken over his homeland or flee with his children to safety. Leopold makes his choice—but too late. His family is ripped apart, never to be reunited. But decades later, fate brings together the descendants of this broken dynasty in the place where it all began—Falcon Point.

Anna, Cole, and Tess have never met, each relying on fractured pieces of information to understand their Austrian heritage. But when unforeseen opportunities draw these Lang cousins to Falcon Point, they soon discover they are not alone in their quest to claim the coveted property and the fabled treasure hidden within. Unfortunately, another claimant, one with a much darker heritage, is determined to eliminate the Lang family once and for all.

(Affiliate links included.)

My Thoughts:

Heirs of Falcon Point surprised me in many ways. At first I thought since it was written by four authors it would be an anthology. It is not and what it is is a seamlessly woven story about a family who dared to stand up to evil. This is their story and the story of their heirs.

Karl, Ingrid, and Anna Lang have already lost their mother to death and now their father is asking them to leave their home. The war (World War 2) has reached Austria now and very few people can be trusted. Not even long time friends. So they all make plans to leave the country. They have even hidden many of the family's treasures so that upon their return they can set up house again. Unfortunately, things did not go as planned. Devastating losses have happened and the worst case scenario took place, separation.

I was caught up in these young people's lives and the danger they were facing until all of a sudden we are put in the present time. The story of their heirs. But what happened to the Lang children? And can the Lang's ever reclaim their ancestral home?

I don't want to say much more, but this book was very hard to put down. Family and how important it is was the running theme throughout and it does make you think what you would do to stay together. Definitely one you might just want to pick up.

I received a copy of this novel from the publisher. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.

About the Authors

Traci Hunter Abramson was born in Arizona, where she lived until moving to Venezuela for a study-abroad program. After graduating from Brigham Young University, she worked for the Central Intelligence Agency for several years, eventually resigning in order to raise her family. She credits the CIA with giving her a wealth of ideas as well as the skills needed to survive her children's teenage years. She loves to travel and enjoys coaching her local high school swim team. She has written more than thirty bestselling novels and is a seven-time Whitney Award winner, including 2017 and 2019 Best Novel of the Year.

Sian Ann Bessey was born in Cambridge, England, but grew up on the island of Anglesey off the coast of North Wales. She left her homeland to attend Brigham Young University in Utah, where she earned a bachelor's degree in communications with a minor in English.

She began her writing career as a college student, publishing several articles in the New Era, Ensign, and Liahona magazines. Since then she has published historical romance and romantic suspense novels, along with a variety of children's books. She is a USA Today best-selling author, a Foreword Reviews Book of the Year finalist, and a Whitney Award finalist.

Sian and her husband, Kent, are the parents of five children and the grandparents of three beautiful girls and two handsome boys. They currently live in Idaho, and although Sian doesn't have the opportunity to speak Welsh very often anymore, she can still wrap her tongue around, Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch still rolls off her tongue.

Traveling, reading, cooking, and being with her grandchildren are some of her favorite activities.

Paige Edwards is an award-winning author of contemporary Regency romances with a side-order of suspense. Her stories have debuted in the number-one Amazon spot for Christian fiction and have received national five-star reviews by Reader’s Favorite and InD’Tale Magazine. Her novels appeal to a wide range of readers from Historical Romance to Mystery/Suspense. She holds a degree in interior design and has worked professionally in that field. Due to her strong British roots, Paige’s books are often set in the UK, and she hops the pond whenever she gets the chance. She Is the Lady Paige Edwards when in Scotland, but her favorite title is Grandma. When she needs a break from writing, she serves as president of her area’s Interfaith Community Council, she is fond of digging in the dirt (what some might call gardening), she bikes the battlefields, and she kayaks on the lake.

A. L. Sowards has always been fascinated by the 1940s, but she’s grateful she didn’t live back then. She doesn’t think she could have written a novel on a typewriter, and no one would be able to read her handwriting if she wrote her books out longhand. She does, however, think they had the right idea when they rationed nylon and women went barelegged.

Sowards is the author of multiple historical fiction novels, with settings spanning the globe from the fourteenth to twentieth centuries. Her stories have become Whitney Finalists and won a Whitney Award, reached the number one spot across multiple Amazon categories, received praise from the Historical Novel Society, and been loved by readers from a variety of backgrounds.

She lives with her husband and three children and has called Washington State, Utah, and Alaska home. She enjoys hiking and swimming, usually manages to keep up with the laundry, and loves it when someone else cooks dinner. She doesn’t own a typewriter, but she does own a pair or two of nylons.

Review and Giveaway: Trusting the Rancher with Christmas by Cari Lynn Webb

On Tour with Prism Book Tours

Trusting the Rancher with Christmas
(Three Springs, Texas #2)
By Cari Lynn Webb
Contemporary Romance
Paperback & ebook, 384 Pages
October 26, 2021 by Harlequin Heartwarming

A visit for the holidays

Brings love for a lifetime

Cattle rancher Evan Bishop is desperate for Paige Palmer’s help. The veterinarian is in Three Springs for the holidays, but the single dad hopes she has time to save his ailing livestock. Paige is up for the challenge, though not quite up to resisting the cowboy’s rugged charm and his darling devotion to his little girl. Can Paige learn to trust the rancher before the countdown to Christmas ends?

(Affiliate links included.)

My Thoughts:

This was a really sweet Christmas story about a rancher, Evan and his little girl Riley, who need help with their ailing cows and the reason they are falling ill. It just so happens that Paige Palmer is on a forced break from her vet clinic in Chicago and she is in town visiting with her sister Tess and cousin Abbey. They have a cute first meet followed by some matchmakers in the town thinking Evan and Paige need each other. Including Riley.

I had read and enjoyed Abbey and Wes's story so I was glad to get a peak at what they are up to. Paige and Evan work hard together to find out what the mysterious illness is. Both are a little heart sore and love worn from past relationships, but they cannot deny the attraction between them. Friends first then a couple, however Paige is determined to leave Texas and return back to Chicago. How can she go when she is leaving her heart behind?

This Christmas Evan and Paige get a fresh start at family and love. I hope we get Tess's story soon. She needs to have some happiness too.

I received a copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.

Review, Guest Post, and Giveaway: A Season on the Wind by Suzanne Woods Fisher

About the Book

Book: A Season on the Wind

Author: Suzanne Woods Fisher

Genre: Amish Fiction

Release date: October 5, 2021

Ben Zook had only two loves in his life: books and birds. In a stroke of good fortune, he’d stumbled onto a way to cobble together those two loves into a career, writing books about rare birds. He was as free as a bird–until a chase for a rare White-winged Tern takes him to the one place on earth he planned to never return: his Amish home in Stoney Ridge.

Desperate for photographs of the elusive tern, Ben hires a local field guide, Micah Weaver, and boards at Micah’s farm, planning to “bag the bird” and leave Stoney Ridge before anyone recognizes him. But he neglected to plan for Micah’s sister, Penny. One long-ago summer, Penny had introduced Ben to birding, even sharing with him a hidden eagle aerie. That eagle became his spark bird–the one that inspired his lifelong love.

Ben. He was Penny’s spark bird. That was when she knew true love. She’d always hoped Ben would come back to Stoney Ridge. Back to his Amish roots. Back to her. The only problem? Ben has absolutely no memory of Penny.

Click here to get your copy!

My Thoughts:

It was nice to go back and visit Stoney Ridge again, an Amish community that I have grown quite fond of through the various series by author Fisher. This is Penny Weaver's and her brother Micah's story along with Ben Zook and his Englisher cousin Natalie's.

On the outside the town looks peaceful and like a piece of heaven itself. But the people, especially these four and the ones they care about are having issues and this story is full of revelations that quite surprised me. For one Penny hasn't seen Ben Zook for over twenty years, but she has always pined for him and has waited for him to come back. When he does, he doesn't remember her at all. Why?

Then there is Natalie, the Englisher, who has just watched her marriage dissolve in divorce and is trying to put her life back together with a new future. Maybe that could include a new love? I enjoyed this story which does deal with some heavy topics as revelations are revealed.

The reason Ben and Natalie have come to Stoney Ridge in the first place is to locate an elusive bird. I have never really thought much about birding, but Micah's journal which has a place between chapters, was a fascinating look at this particular hobby.

I received a copy of this novel from the publisher. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.

Did You Know? 8 Facts about the Christmas Bird Count

1) The year 2021 marks the 122nd National Audubon Society’s annual Christmas Bird Count (CBC) which, ironically, wasn’t always about counting live birds.

2) In 1900, the first CBC was launched as an alternative to the traditional Christmas “side hunt.” This holiday tradition encouraged people to go out into the woods on Christmas Day, choose “sides” to team up with and then, in the words of Frank Chapman, “kill everything in fur or feathers that crossed their path – if they could.” The winner was the “side” with the largest pile of dead birds. (Ugh!)

3) Frank Chapman was a prominent ornithologist, conservationist, and writer/editor who published Bird Lore magazine. He led the charge to end to this senseless slaughter and invited his readers to begin a new holiday tradition of counting, rather than shooting, birds.

4) Twenty-seven people participated in 25 counts that first year (in 1900). They counted 90 species of birds.

5) The idea caught on. Big time.

6) During December and January of each year, thousands of Christmas Bird Counts take place across the U.S., Canada, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and the Pacific Islands. The purpose of the CBC is a scientific census—to assess the health of bird populations and help guide conservation action.

7) Each CBC has an established 15-mile diameter circular count area. On a pre-arranged date, registered teams go out (with an assigned volunteer observer) and count the number of birds of each species they can identify within their assigned area. Each count has a volunteer compiler who sums up all of the lists and inputs the total numbers for each species into Audubon’s Christmas Bird Count database.

8) The CBC is the longest-running citizen science project and wildlife survey in the world. In fact, the CBC is considered the gold standard in citizen science.

And you don’t have to be an experienced birdwatcher to participate in the CBC! Bird lovers of all skills are welcomed. Even me! I’m a very enthusiastic amateur.

Review, Guest Post, and Giveaway: Rising Danger by Jerusha Agen

About the Book

Book:  Rising Danger

Author: Jerusha Agen

Genre: Christian Romantic Suspense

Release date: May 25, 2021

It’s up to a K-9 handler and her canine partner to stop a bomber before it’s too late.

Someone’s planting explosives on dams in the Twin Cities, and Bristol Bachmann and her bomb sniffing dog must move quickly to find them before everything ends up underwater. That means relying on the dams’ supervisor—an ex-boyfriend Bristol never thought she’d see again. Hopefully Remington Jones has grown up from the rakish charmer she knew in her academy days. Because lives now depend entirely on them…

It’s an environmental terrorist who wants the dams gone, and his bid to set the waters free has lethal consequences. When he sees Bristol and her K-9 working to stop him, he sets his sights on them. Can they evade him in a lethal game of cat and mouse and protect their cities from devastating destruction before the clock runs out?

Click here to get your copy!

My Thoughts:

There is something bad happening in Minnesota and to her dams. Terrorists are planting bombs without regard to human life or property or the damage and devastation that is sure to rise. Is this an environmental terrorist, a disgruntled employee, or someone who has a personal vendetta against the dam's supervisor Remington Jones or K-9 unit officer Bristol Bachmann?

Rem and Bristol are forced to work together along with Toby, her bomb sniffing dog to search out anything new and suspicious. They also have a past relationship that didn't end well. There is still an attraction between them, though Bristol has a lot of animosity towards Rem. But both care about people and both are determined to stop the terrorist and the bombings.

This was a scary thriller especially when the work of evil people could bring so much death and devastation. I felt bad for our heroes as they continually questioned themselves and blamed themselves over what did and what could happen. I really wanted them to keep working to stop the bad guys but put the ultimate blame on the evil people.

This was a good edge of your seat thriller that had these two and their teams racing against the ticking bombs to stop the terrorists from killing and destroying.

I received a copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.

More from Jerusha

Hi, readers! For those of you who are familiar with my suspense novels, you know I love to interweave fast-paced suspense with powerful character journeys of redemption. I got to do just that in my romantic suspense novel, Rising Danger.

But what I especially loved about writing Rising Danger was the chance to feature a canine hero. Bristol Bachmann, the heroine of Rising Danger, partners with Toby, an explosives detection K-9, to stop a bomber from unleashing terror on the Twin Cities.

As a lifelong lover of dogs, I’ve always been fascinated by working K-9s like Toby. Getting to portray this black Labrador’s heroism in Rising Danger was so much fun.

I also feel that writing about Toby and the other K-9s in this tale who are part of the Phoenix K-9 Security and Detection Agency was a way to honor the heroic dogs I’ve had in my own life. No, I haven’t known any working K-9s, but I’ve shared my life with dogs who were heroic in different ways.

Take Lancelot, my first Leonberger. Lancelot was one of the sweetest dogs I’ve ever known. With his huge size, he was a true gentle giant. At an early age, he became terribly afraid of strangers and new places. I worked with skilled trainers to help him battle his fear, and he did have some improvement. But he would always struggle with meeting new people or visiting locations away from home.

Even so, he never stopped fighting against his fears. He continued to get better the more he fought. And while he battled his fears, he taught me how to battle mine.

Then, the worst battle of all commenced when he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Doctors gave him only three to four months to live—a frightening and devastating death sentence for the dog of my heart.

But God had more to teach me through Lancelot. This courageous dog fought cancer as hard as he had fought his fears. He taught me how to find joy in every moment of life, even when there’s pain or sadness. He taught me how precious and powerful love can be. And God used him to give me unforgettable evidence of God’s loving providence and sovereignty at work.

Because God had a different plan for Lancelot. God gave me the gift of over 1,000 more days with my heroic dog.

Right up to the end of his days, Lancelot remained my hero. I’m so pleased to begin a series of books with prequel Rising Danger that feature K-9 heroes who, in different ways, remind me of the heroic dogs I’ve been privileged to love.
