My Thoughts:
This is a story about two people who are cautiously and almost quietly going through life. Clara is a widow of six years and is the biology teacher. Sam is the pastor of their small-town church, and he has walked a hard road in his youth. I feel like they both have healed yet are still scarred from life's wounds. Neither are bitter and they both have a lovely maturity about them. Sam and Clara both are willing to help others at any cost. Again, it was good to read about such maturity, and self-sacrifice, now are these two going to accept the love that is blossoming in front of them?
Clara has caught the attention of two good men. Actually, she has had the attention of Sam, but he has just been to guarded and timid to approach her with his attraction. Then one day disaster for the town blows in on the winds of a tornado and the whole town of Shady Springs must work together and start over. This is where Clara and Sam shine in the story. The message that Sam gives young Micah about why the church is helping his family was pure love, and the fact that Sam didn't just talk, but worked to help Micah and the rest of the town was a great testament of his faith.
Shady Springs is a sweet fictional town made sweeter by the characters. This was a friends to more romance with a mature couple that worked together to work through their troubles.
