My Thoughts on The Blooming of Delphinium

About:

Making the perfect match is like arranging the perfect bouquet--and no one is better at it than Delphinium Hayes. Except when it comes to making a match for herself.

As far as hidden talents go, she is blessed with one of the more unique ones. With the slightest passing whiff, she knows someone's most admirable or weediest characteristic. This peculiar perception never fails to give her an advantage in understanding people--except for one man, whose scent doesn't seem to match his demeanor.

Prim and proper Elliot Sturgis, director of Moonberry Lake's Gardens Assisted Living and Senior Care Facility, carries the scent of violets--meaning love and loyalty--yet is strict and unwavering in his determination to stop a group of his wily residents from sneaking over to Delphinium's shop to play cards in the flower cooler. But the more glimpses Delphinium gets of the soft side beyond Elliot's harsh exterior, the more she understands his scent--and her intrigue deepens as sparks fly.

The crowd in her cooler isn't Delphinium's only problem. Behind on the mortgage payments and on the verge of losing her shop to foreclosure, Delphinium isn't sure where to turn for help. But God has a funny way of putting the right people in the place at the right time . . .

My Thoughts:

This was such an engaging read full of quirky characters and a unique gift that the heroine, Delphinium possesses. Feeling the loss of her grandmother and trying to keep her flower shop afloat, Delphinium has a lot on her plate. Along with an interesting first name, she also has a gift of determining other characters by what flower they smell like. I know, it sounds odd, it is, but it worked for the story.

However, in the midst of a somewhat crises, a bunch of residents from an assisted living home, start showing up in her shop's freezer playing poker. They are endearing and wild, and Delphinium doesn't know how to kick them out. She only knows that they must keep their clothes on, yes, she is having that problem. What is a girl to do when they have some of the wildest claims, requests, and demands she has ever heard of?

Enter two men in her life that totally confuse her. One, she cannot detect a scent and the other's scent does not match his demeanor. With the help of her new friends, romance might just be what Delphinium needs. But which one? Again, this was a fun and engaging read if a bit different.

Two outcasts. One marriage of convenience. A love story forged in the fires of adversity.

Muireall Blair has finally found a comfortable life at Fort Harrod—until she experiences a recurring nightmare that warns of impending doom for her sister. Unable to shake the weight of foreboding, Muireall cannot sit idle anymore and risk the dream becoming a reality. Half-blinded as a youth, the scars across his face and the knowledge of his illegitimate birth serve as a reminder of his worthlessness. However, when his mother falls ill, she finally lays bare all the secrets she has kept all his life. Secrets that point to his one chance of finding who he truly is.

Jude and Muireall soon realize that a marriage of convenience is the key to reaching Pitman Station safely. But when their secrets unravel and danger closes in, will they succumb to the shadows of their pasts, or will they find the strength to forge a new future together?

My Thoughts:

Muireall and Jude both need to travel to the wilderness. Muireall to meet up with her sister and Jude to find his father. However, to travel together, they must marry. In this marriage of convenience story, both the bride and the groom have some secrets they are keeping from one another.

I really enjoyed this story of virtually two strangers starting out on a dangerous trek, supporting one another, and eventually falling in love. That is after they deal with the secrets each of them has and the dangers that seem to keep finding them. I also found this book to be about forgiveness. Especially since I was quite shocked how both reacted to the secrets.

This was a page turner as I was so hoping for a happily ever after for these two.

More from Andrea

I love to read books that have historical facts, especially little-known ones, woven into their pages. Within my books, I strive to do the same and Return to the Wilderness is no exception.

This book comes in after the unrest of what some call the “Indian Wars,” in Kentucky. During that time, attacks by the native were frequent and brutal. Many of the Station Masters and long hunters in the area lost family members. If you read, Rescue in the Wilderness, you have seen a glimpse of this time and how devastating it could be.

Due to these attacks, stations and settlements were often abandoned. Sometimes the families returned after this time period came to an end and sometimes the buildings were simply left to deteriorate and become shells of a past time. I do not want to give any spoilers, but if you decide to read Return to the Wilderness, you will find out just how this little piece of history impacts the main character, Muireall (the sister from Redemption in the Wilderness).

My Thoughts and More on A Christmas at Hotel del Coronado by Kathleen Denly

About the Book

Book: A Christmas at Hotel del Coronado

Author: Kathleen Denly

Genre: Christian Historical Romance

Release date: October 8, 2024

When death visits Coronado, will secrets of the past keep them from uncovering the truth?

Her entire life, Eleanore Wainright has been molded to fit the ideal society wife in the glittering world of New York’s elite. Her father’s aspirations for her are clear: marry a man of wealth and status, and secure their family’s future. But when she arrives at the Hotel del Coronado with intentions to do just that, Eleanore’s carefully laid plans are thrown into disarray when she comes face to face with Thomas Harding, the man who shattered her heart and disappeared without a trace.

Working as a bellboy at California’s newest and most prestigious resort, Thomas never imagined crossing paths with Eleanore again, let alone amidst the backdrop of a suspicious death.

As the investigation continues and tensions rise, Eleanore and Thomas are forced to confront not only the ghosts of their past but also the secrets that threaten to destroy their future and the futures of those they hold dear. With the eyes of New York’s elite upon them, they must choose between the responsibilities they’re expected to fulfill and the love they’ve always yearned for, risking everything in the process.

My Thoughts:

Eleanore is vacationing with her father and aunt in California, mainly to catch the attention of the man her father wants her to marry. Not for her own happiness, no, but simply business. What she does not imagine will happen is running into her true love, or so she thought since he abandoned her some years ago.

Thomas is working as a bellboy at the hotel, and he is also quite shocked to see the woman who broke his heart and never responded to his letter. However, these two need to not only uncover their own pasts, but the secrets that seem to be lurking ever closer at the hotel until a murder shocks everyone.

This was an interesting read, going to a California resort near Christmas, which sounds wonderful. Except for the broken hearts and murder. Will Thomas and Eleanore uncover the truth and get to live their happily ever after, or will they be separated for all time? Mystery and romance in the Gilded Age was a fun trip into the past.

About the Author

Kathleen Denly lives in sunny California with her loving husband, four young children, two dogs, and ten cats. As a member of the adoption and foster community, children in need are a cause dear to her heart and she finds they make frequent appearances in her stories. When she isn’t writing, researching, or caring for children, Kathleen spends her time reading, visiting historical sites, hiking, and crafting.

More from Kathleen

A Christmas at Hotel del Coronado was inspired first by the true events surrounding the tragic death of a mysterious woman that occurred at Coronado’s world famous hotel in November of 1892, and second by the fun antics of Miss Scarlet in the Masterpiece television show, Miss Scarlet and the Duke.

Although Miss Scarlet is a professional sleuth, I chose to make my heroine, Eleanore Wainright, an amateur sleuth who typically puts her keen observation skills to use when secretly writing her own mystery novels. That is, until an unexpected death compels her to use those skills to uncover the truth. Of course my hero, Thomas Harding, gets wrapped into helping her despite the tension of past heartbreak lying between them.

One of the most fun parts of writing this story was seeing Eleanore’s spunky Aunt Gladys support and encourage her niece. Aunt Gladys has an energy and sassiness that belies her years. And today, her curiosity has got the better of her. You see, Eleanore is being stubborn and won’t reveal the title of her current work in progress, so Aunt Glady is snooping through her niece’s room for clues.

My Thoughts on Where I Belong by Rose Fresquez

About:

There are several reasons I shouldn’t be nannying for the grumpy single dad.

Jason Sterling’s dazzling looks could turn heads, but his grumpy attitude just as easily freezes you in your tracks. Our first encounter? A disaster. He blamed me and my TV show for wrecking his family, and my interview turned into a shouting match. Needless to say, I didn't get the job on his TV network and vowed we’d never cross paths again.

When I take a temporary position through my mom’s nanny agency, guess who's my new boss? None other than Jason Sterling himself. I decide to quit, but I made a promise to his mother when she hired me. So when Jason shows up with a proposal—to work together for the sake of his kids—I reluctantly agree.
Then I move into his house—living under the same roof doesn't make things easier. We clash on nearly everything, yet despite my best efforts, the undeniable chemistry between us becomes impossible to ignore.

As our daily lives intertwine, I start to see a different side of Jason—a playful, loving, and protective father whose genuine affection for his children pulls at my heartstrings. Before I know it, Jason and I are inseparable, I fight his battles and he fights mine. We are not that much different after all. I'm falling helplessly in love with him, his children, and the charming small town that’s embraced me.
But my time with him is running out, and leaving suddenly feels all wrong. Falling for my enemy might be reckless, but loving him? It feels like coming home— where I belong.

My Thoughts:

Yay! I have a new author to read and follow. Author Fresquez really got me with this story of a love between a broken man and woman. I don't normally like to read about divorces, this one was an exception for me. See I believe that marriage is till death do you part, but what happens when your spouse does not feel the same? This story delves into the blessings of marriage and breaking the cycle of broken families.

Jason Sterling is a man on a mission. That mission is giving his three kids the best life he can after their mother walked out on him and them. He may have placed the blame for his marriage on a TV show, without really looking into the root cause of the issue. In steps Valentina, said star of that show, now looking to hire at his company. Jason is not having any of that and sends her packing.

Valentina had never met a man she disliked so much. And she has had plenty hurt her, including her own father. Now to keep herself afloat, she needs to hire out as a Nanny. Lo and behold, Jason is the children's father.

This was a fun story with lots of fireworks and swoon between two people who do not have the best two first meetings. However, love does funny things and as they get to know one another, their mutual dislike changes to love and the fun is watching it all happen. I look forward to more of this author's works.
