Review: Never Leave Me by Jody Hedlund

About:

Facing death takes courage. Facing life takes even more.

In the last stages of a genetic disease, Ellen Creighton has decided to live out her remaining days at the estate of her longtime friend Harrison Burlington. Though he's never allowed himself to get serious in a relationship due to his paralysis, Harrison cares deeply for Ellen and is desperately trying to save her life by finding the holy water that is believed to heal any disease--the same substance Ellen suspects is responsible for the deaths of her father and sister.

But Harrison is not the only one seeking the holy water. Dangerous criminals are mere steps behind, and Ellen soon learns they will go to any lengths to get the powerful drug--including sending her back into the past to locate it for them.

Bestselling and award-winning author Jody Hedlund plunges you into the swiftly flowing river of history in this second breathtaking Waters of Time story.

My Thoughts:

I have been impatiently waiting for this second book in author Hedlund's Waters of Time series. I was pulled into the lives of this family from the first book, and I really wanted to get Ellen's and Harrison's story. What was going to happen to them now that they just have each other, and would Ellen ever see her sister or father again?

Now Ellen has a very serious disease that is killing her along with tumors that is making life really painful for her. She has lost her sister and father and only really has Harrison her best friend to see her through her final days.

Harrison is deeply in love with Ellen and has been for a long time. He never felt he could pursue a relationship with Ellen as he is about 12 years older and he also is in a wheelchair, not sure if he can be or wants to be a father. But he is desperate to save Ellen, but he is losing her each day to the disease that is wasting her away. So, he does what he can and makes her comfortable in his caste.

Then lo and behold the past breaks through to the present again, and Harrison now believes he has the cure for Ellen. But she won't believe him, so he uses it to prove to her the validity of her family's research. After that, the story picks up speed and races through time, past and present as very evil men want to get their hands on this miracle cure as well and Ellen and Harrison are even in more danger than before.

If you are looking for romance, time travel, medieval background, contemporary, familial relationships, this story is jam packed with all of it. I have been a long-time fan of author Hedlund, and I think this series tops everything she has written so far. Her time travel technique was both unique and fun to read about. And the romance between Harrison and Ellen was swoony as all get out and a memorable one.

I was provided a copy of this novel from the publisher. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.
