My Thoughts on Honor's Refuge by Hallee Bridgeman

About:

You can't give up on love

When she was just five years old, Melissa Braxton watched her father take her mother's life and suffered the pain of separation from her sister, Lola. Melissa grew up with a strong desire to help those stuck in abusive relationships. It's why she became a therapist and opened a domestic abuse shelter.

After losing a leg to a gunshot wound in the line of duty, Phil Osbourne has felt like a man without a purpose--until he hears Melissa's story and decides to use his Special Forces contacts to track down her missing sister, the wife of a Colombian cartel teniente. He knows what he discovers will break Melissa's heart. What he doesn't realize is that helping the women reunite will bring the cartel down on them like the category 5 hurricane striking Miami.

Bruised yet not quite broken, Melissa and Phil battle the storm and the cartel, calling on strength they didn't know they had to escape death, save the innocent, and--just maybe--find healing in each other's arms.

My Thoughts:

From the very first book, I have been invested in these character's stories. We met Phil in the first book, he was one of the special op's soldiers who was seriously hurt. In fact, he lost his leg. If you want to know more about that mission and how everything went down, pick up Honor Bound. Now two years later Phil is back and working as an EMT and this is his story.

Melissa Braxton is a woman who has a heart for abused women and children. Watching her mother die at the hands of her father and then being separated from her sister lit a fire in her to do something. To be the hands and feet that will help these women get out of their situation. All the while she is trying to locate her lost sister.

Phil and Melissa are good friends, meeting together at least twice a week. Truth be told, they are both in love with each other. Melissa wants more in their relationship and Phil does not think he is right for her due to his past. However, Phil will do what he can for Melissa and her mission. He does just that as he locates her sister, who is also in a not-so-great situation. And that is where the story gets really dangerous as Melissa and Phil fight for their lives and the lives of those they love.

This was a great edition to the series and just like the others the comradery between the special op's friends was great to see. This story did delve into some sensitive subjects, particularly abuse, and why these women would want to leave and why some would go back. Very thought provoking. I cannot wait for more from the pen of author Bridgeman.

I was provided a copy of this novel from the publisher. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.
