My Thoughts on Yesterday's Tides by Roseanna M. White

About:

In two world wars, intelligence and counterintelligence, prejudice, and self-sacrifice collide across two generations

In 1942, Evie Farrow is used to life on Ocracoke Island, where every day is the same--until the German U-boats haunting their waters begin to wreak havoc. And when special agent Sterling Bertrand is washed ashore at Evie's inn, her life is turned upside down. While Sterling's injuries keep him inn-bound for weeks, making him even more anxious about the SS officer he's tracking, he becomes increasingly intrigued by Evie, who seems to be hiding secrets of her own.

Decades earlier, in 1914, Englishman Remington Culbreth arrives at the Ocracoke Inn for the summer, never expecting to fall in love with Louisa Adair, the innkeeper's daughter. But when war breaks out in Europe, their relationship is put in jeopardy and may not survive what lies ahead for them.

As the ripples from the Great War rock Evie and Sterling's lives in World War II, it seems yesterday's tides may sweep them all into danger again today.

My Thoughts:

This book was so heart wrenching good, that I felt like my emotions were on a roller coaster. The story is about two different timelines, one taking place in the years around the World War One, and the other World War two. The main location is Ocracoke Island, North Carolina. Though the timelines take us on a journey to many important places, especially concerning the wars. The story is very intricate, and the author did such a good job of putting all the pieces together. In fact, if you have read other author White's stories and her series, you the reader are in for a real treat. I will not say more than that, but I was amazed at her detail. If you have not, you will still enjoy this story immensely.

When we switched the timelines, you knew which one you were in by the titling of Yesterday or Today. This story is chock full of family, friends, romance, and political intrigue. Not only that but the first timeline seamlessly runs into the other with a few twists and turns that took me by surprise. So much so I had to read a couple of parts over again just to let the dynamics sink in.

The characters, I loved them. Both eras. There was a bit of mystery that only deepened the story more. This is also the second book I have read this year that deals with some islands in North Carolina and the outer banks that played an important role during World War Two. The historical facts and the atmosphere of impending war or war brought this story to life. And the romantic journey of the couples, priceless, though I was worried about them at times.

I do believe this is now my favorite author White book.

I received a copy of this novel form the publisher. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.
