Two unsolved murders seventeen years apart become personal when Detective Rachel Sloan discovers a connection to her own mother’s death in a burglary-gone-wrong. Can she solve the cases before she becomes the next victim?
My Thoughts:
Justice Betrayed
takes us to Memphis, Tennessee during a very busy Elvis week. Homicide detective
Rachel Sloan is a woman who has been on her own for a while. She is a widow, her
mother was murdered when she was just fifteen years old, and her father, who is
an important judge, and she does not get along. I really felt she had a lot
stacked up against her in life. She is also working with Lt. Boone Callahan
whom she dated briefly and still has feelings for and vice versa.
What starts out as a visit from an older Elvis impersonator
with information about a murder that took place around the time her mother was
murdered, pushes Rachel in the bullseye for a person that seems to not have any
moral conscience.
Besides the viewpoints of Boone and Rachel, we also get
inside the killer’s mind. This individual is particularly creepy for reasons I won’t
mention due to spoilers and also just due to the fact I never was sure who it
was. There were about three to four people I kept thinking might be the guilty
one.
This was an intense read simply because I was left guessing
most of the book. However we do have Rachel’s two grandmothers who give a bit
of fun and levity to a story that was rather intense.
