Watercolorist Olivia Rutherford has shed her humble beginnings to fashion her image as an avant-garde artist to appeal to the region's wealthy art-collectors. Where the Fire Falls
took me on quite a trip to Yosemite Park during the 1920’s. I have never been
to this national park, or to California, but the descriptions of the places
made me feel like I was camping out right along with Olivia and her very
handsome park guide Clark. I haven’t read a lot with the time frame set in the
20’s, it is not a particular favorite, but I was enamored with the slang the
author used and where the country stood between the two World Wars.

Olivia is an up and coming artist who has changed her whole
identity to hide who she really is. Clark is also running from his past and he
has run to the mountains to escape his shame. As these two are paired together
they definitely do not see eye to eye and sparks fly from the moment they meet.
Romance, mystery, and danger abound in this novel where two running souls meet
their matches.
I found the history of the park’s fire falls event very intriguing
and also a little bit dangerous. However, it must have been a marvelous site to
behold. Reading the author notes was very informative on just how much the park
has changed from that time.
