Forced to run for her life, Kit FitzGilbert finds herself in the very place she swore never to return to—a London ballroom. My Thoughts:
Author Kristi Ann Hunter starts off her new series with a
hero who just made me smile. Graham was just a heartwarming character and very
romantic when he wanted to be. I felt he was just the right person to pull Kit
out of her protective shell that she surrounded herself and those she loved in.
This was a different story in the fact that Kit and her two
friends were helping illegitimate children and their mothers, due to upper
class indiscretions. I found it sad that most men would be able to just walk
away and did, not caring about the situation they created. When women were used
for advantageous marriages and what their fathers could gain in return was also
a very sad situation, especially when their own fathers turned them out due to
a mistake in judgement.
I thought the title, A
Defense of Honor, fit this story well. I could picture the hidden Haven
Manor and at times wished I had one myself just to retreat to a quiet safe
place. This was an emotional read for me, I think because those who were trying
to do the honorable thing had such an uphill battle with limited resources,
time, circumstances, and the selfish people who were against them. I am curious
how this series will play out. The friends of Kit and Graham have unusual
stories to tell as well.
