Review: The Pirate Bride by Kathleen Y'Barbo

To Purchase
About the Book:

Can a former privateer and a determined heiress find lost treasure in 1725?

The last time New Orleans attorney Jean-Luc Valmont saw Maribel Cordoba, a Spanish nobleman’s daughter, she was an eleven-year-old orphan perched in the riggings of his privateering vessel proving herself as the best lookout on his crew. Until the day his infamy caught up with them all and innocent lives were lost. Unsure why he survived but vowing to make something of the chance he was given, Jean-Luc has buried his past life so deep that no living person will ever find it—until a very much alive and very grown up Maribel Cordoba arrives on his doorstep and threatens all he now holds dear.

My Thoughts:

The Pirate Bride was an adventure story that starts off when Maribel Cordoba is just 11 years old. After being told her beloved mother and grandfather are dead; her mysterious father takes her away from all she knows. Maribel is a young girl with quite an imagination, which is helped fueled by all the books she reads. She does have certain affinity for pirates however, and when she is captured by Privateer Jean-Luc Valmont, she sees the beginnings of a new life at sea if only she can get the captain to agree.

Theirs was an interesting relationship as Jean-Luc is 12 years her senior, he met her when she was young, and has a dark history with her father. I did not mind their love story, they are apart for much of the middle of the book as each grow and move on with their lives after some devastating circumstances separated them. I would have liked more time with them together as adults, but I found this story focused on their growth and adventures more than the romance. It was a quick read and I look forward to more of this series. The covers of all the books are fantastic.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.
