My Thoughts:
I have a book hangover. Yep, stayed up late and got up early
reading this one and did not want to put it down. Rescued Hearts by Hope
Toler Dougherty is the first book I have read by this author, and her other two
have just been added to my wish list. I enjoyed this story so much: the danger,
intrigue, sparks flying romance, the banter between the characters, the
chemistry between the hero and heroine. Yep, I enjoyed all of it except that it
is over: but what a story and one for the reread shelf.
This book started out with a very scary situation that could
have really ended badly, but in walks a hero that saves the day. Both Brett and
Mary Wade (an interesting first name that consists of two names) are immediately
drawn together once the danger subsides a bit, but both have been hurt by
various people in various situations, not just romantic. I liked how the author
filled us in on both of their back stories as they opened up bit by bit each
day they were forced together.
Brett was the knight in shining armor. He was very
protective and tried so hard to even protect Mary Wade from himself. And Mary
Wade? Well, even though she was in a vulnerable situation in her life and life
was not looking to good at the moment, she certainly held her own. This is definitely
an inspirational story and both characters relied on their faith in God to get
them through very realistically. There were some intense scenes that had me
biting my nails and flipping through the pages. I could almost feel the bruises
myself.
Bottom line, I really got lost in this story and I was a
happy, happy reader. I am looking forward to reading the author’s other
stories. Looks like one is set in Ireland- oh be still my heart.
