Review: Unplanned by Alana Terry

About:

When Kennedy Stern’s childhood pastor asks her to volunteer at his new pregnancy center, she carves time out of her rigorous college schedule to promote the cause of the unborn.

After receiving a disturbing call from someone far too young to carry a child, Kennedy can no longer blindly hide behind the pro-life platitudes she grew up believing. She resolves to locate the unknown girl but winds up entrenched in a mystery that grows more convoluted as it unfolds.

Soon, Kennedy finds herself a pawn in a deadly game of intrigue, at the mercy of those who consider a few innocent lives a small ransom to pay in exchange for personal and political victory.

My Review:

Unplanned by Alana Terry was a bit of a disturbing book and not really what I expected going in.  I have to admit that I was disturbed after reading this book, and even a little depressed.  After putting this book down I was left wondering how it was possible that a person could do such terrible things to fellow people- even people who may or may not be family.

This book didn’t have the usual suspense I tend to read in other Christian suspense books: like death threats, attempts on the character’s life, and super protective (attractive) cops.  There was nothing to warn Kennedy of what was going to happen next.  She was just going la-di-da through her life trying to juggle her school and helping out her pastor and old friend Carl when- BAM she’s thrust into the midst of it all.  Kennedy has no warning, no clue as to what is going on, and no idea whether she will get out alive.  The characterization was very life-like and the situation realistic and frightening.

I am a little wary about the next books in the series.  I am interested in what will happen to Kennedy next (and even more interested in the identity of the mysterious redheaded reporter) but I’m a little scared of what the next book will have in it. This series is definitely not for the faint of heart.

I received a copy of this book for free through Bookfun.  I was not required to give a positive review and the views and opinions expressed are my own.
