My Thoughts:
Here we have a story of family. Family lost, family found, and family chosen. Devon Fairchild is finally fulfilling the wish of her late brother and only family she had left. Going back to a place that shaped her world more than she would like to admit and determined to keep those secrets close to her chest. Unfortunately, it is the dead of winter, and she is a city girl. So, the inevitable happens, she gets hurt and needs to be rescued.
Finn McAllister, a firefighter, comes to her rescue. Due to circumstances, Devon recuperates at his family's home. They become friends, and shortly thereafter feelings begin to develop. However, Devon doesn't plan on staying, though she keeps coming up with reasons to not leave yet. Finn, that rescuer, lays his heart out to her. He has come a long way from the hurt he has experienced. Will Devon stay, or will the connections to the town and more secrets have her hightailing back to Chicago?
This was a sweet romance that really had the heart of family in the center. Each of these characters were facing some big hurts in their lives and needed some Christmas cheer to help. Unfortunately, bad things happen, and people can be cruel, but don't give up on love or family. There are just some things worth staying for.
