My Thoughts:

Starting off with a dramatic prologue, we are instantly on the scene as a young girl of fifteen is about to give birth. Her parents are there rooting for her and all of this is part of a cult that her family is a part of. From those first few pages I was hooked.

The story picks up 15 years later and that girl is now a woman and a cop. And she's very smart and a tough cookie. Watching her work you would hardly guess her background. But others know, some good some bad.

There is a lot of moving parts in this story. There are what appears to be vigilante murders. Police officers who seem to be hiding things. A father who will not open up to Jane about their past. And a really good looking but annoying documentarian by the name of Reid who will just not leave her alone.

I admit as I was drawn into the intricacy of this well thought out mystery, I had my guesses. I really hoped I was right with some of them. It just made the story deeper and more complicated, in a good way. This is a really good read by author Coble and it was an experience. I am looking forward to the next in this series and seeing how the larger story arc plays out.

My Thoughts:

This was not your usual suspense novel. Both the hero and the heroine were divorced, so it wasn't my favorite type of love story in that regard, but the chemistry between them was great. They made a great team, and he was a born father for 'Sassy' Sassa's baby girl. Of course, with a baby involved, the stakes were high- but the fact that the plot revolved around a virus that could wipe out food sources in a crop pandemic brought it up to super heights.

The villains really made the story, though, as the extreme ecological terrorists known as the Black Nights, with their own codenames with each other. They also had their special strategies, adding a whole other level of eeriness and tension. Jared really had his hands full, but he was as determined to prove himself as Sassa was to do what was right. If you like tense romantic suspense, you'll like this addition to the genre.

As a teenager, I spent my summers water-skiing on the King’s River in Central California. Even though we lived on the coast and the ocean, we traveled inland to the smooth river waters every other weekend for our sport. We camped on a sandy beach, skimmed over the water all day long and at night sat under a sky full of brilliant stars and listened to the sound of the water rippling past. Since we lived on the coast with a heavy marine layer, the amazing sky always fascinated me. Surrounded by massive cottonwood trees, with the smell of ripe fruit drifting toward us, my river experiences were different from home and more than memorable. On some nights we’d hear the splash and laughter as teenagers, somewhere across the river, came down to swim. I always wondered what it would be like to live in the nearby small, neat-as-a-pin town, to know the same people all of my life and to be able to drive down to the river with my friends on any given night. I envied those teenagers and always knew I’d someday write a story about central California. I didn’t know it would involve biological warfare and crazed killers…but that transition is another story all its own! I’ll stop here and hope you enjoy Killer Harvest!
